In
Cuggiono’s facility a newly built furnace of 3,50 meter width 15,00
meter length and 3,90 meter height is specifically built for the curing of
baked linings and coatings.
The
polymerization of these extremely corrosion resistant linings, with good
mechanical properties, is obtained at temperatures in the range of 200°C.
Different
kind of polymer based products can be applied, such as :
Pure
phenolic
: these are linings specially suited for corrosion resistance in acidic
environment, with pH ranging from 1 to 8, and operational temperatures
ranging from –40°C and + 180°C.
Typical
dry film thickness is 80 to 200 micron.
Application
of baked phenolics is widely used for the lining of chemical reactors,
heat exchangers, compressor rotors, pumps, tanks and vessels for the food,
winery and pharmaceutical industries.
Resistance
to salt brine, potable and distilled water even at temperatures in the
range of 100°C, is outstanding.
Modified
phenolic-epoxy:
these
are linings specially suited for corrosion resistance in caustic
environment, with pH ranging from 4 to 14, and operational temperatures
ranging from –40°C and + 180°C.
Typical
dry film thickness is 150 to 250 micron.
Application
of epoxy-phenolics is widely used for the lining of chemical reactors,
heat exchangers, compressor rotors, pumps, tanks and vessels for the food,
winery and pharmaceutical industries.
Resistance
to hydrocarbons, salt brine, potable and distilled water even at
temperatures in the range of 100°C, is outstanding.

Surface
Preparation and Application :
Design
and Steel preparation are of paramount importance for the successfull
application of the lining, the same holds true for an SSPC 5 –NACE 1
surface preparation with appropriate profile.
Application
of the coating can be done by airless and/or low pressure spray; typical
is also the flow coating.
The
system is usually made of more than one layer with a pre-polymerization
stage in the furnace at temperatures of 100°C (for the phenolics) and 140°C
(for the epoxy-phenolics).
